What is Kabedon?

Kabedon originated from Japanese pop culture, where Kabe 壁 means wall, and Don ドン is the sound made when a wall is hit by someone. It’s often seen in shoujo manga (comic books catered to young girls) as a romantic gesture, where the heroine is cornered by the guy she likes. Kabedon usually ends up to be a serious confession of love. However, kabedon has recently become a funny gesture and the participants are not limited to romantic partners.

According to ‘A Journalist’s Diary’, Domino’s Pizza in Japan offered kabedon coupons, a 25% off on pizza if they pound on the wall when they get the delivery. We’re doing better than that–we are offering bubble tea: buy one get one free at our Bellevue location on Valentine’s day! And our mural in the back is there for you to Kabedon to your heart’s delight. Enjoy bubble tea, bubble waffle, and spend some memorable time at Over the Rainbow Factoria this Valentine’s Day!

How to Kabedon:

The Actor
1) Go to the Yokocho mural in the back
2) Hit the wall with one of your hand
3) Whisper something romantic/funny… or anything creative… have fun!

The Receiver
1) Stay close to the wall
2) Wait for your partner to take action
3) Listen to the whisper and react in a non-violent fashion
You may practice receiving a Kabadon by using a one-person kabedon machine invented by Japanese pop singer Uri Kusunoki (@uri1221tg on Twitter).

* You make no contact with your partner in a Kabedon

Kabedon at Over the Rainbow Tea Bar Bellevue is meant to be fun and done with someone you who agrees to participate with you. Remember always show respect.
